July 1: Due to the 4th of July holiday, yard waste collection in Zone 1 and recycling pick-up in Zone 3 are cancelled. The Borough's Recycling Center will be closed on July 4th, Saturday and will reopen with its normal hours on Monday, July 6th.
June 7th: VACANCY - The Sayre Borough Council announces an opening on the Urban Development and Grants (UDAG) committee. This committee oversees the UDAG loan program, reviews and acts upon loan applications, and meets monthly. For further information please contact David M. June 6th: Avoid the fine - register your dog. You can download a dog license form from the link at the left, pick up one and apply at Tropical Pet Paradise in Athens, or visit Pennsylvania's new online site, PA DOG LICENSE.COM. Follow instructions on this site to the Bradford County registration page. In addition to the usual fees for a dog license, there is a $2.00 charge to process you application. You will receive your license in the mail once you submit your request and payment.
June 6th: The Athens-Sayre Joint Code Enforcement Agency reminds one and all that it is a violation of the borough code to allow grass or weeds to grow higher than 12 inches or to the height at which the vegetation goes to seed, whichever is less (International Property Maintenance Code 2003, Chapter 3, Section 302.4 Weeds). Please keep your property mowed so you will not be in violation of this ordinance.
May 26th: The Sayre Borough Shade Tree Commission changed its monthly meeting time from 6:30 PM to 6:00 PM on the first Wednesday of every month.
May 2nd: The Borough of Sayre announces that compost will be available to residents beginning Saturday, May 2, 2009.
The Borough has set up a distribution area on South Thomas Avenue across for the DPW building where residents can load their own compost. Compost is not available to contractors and it cannot be loaded with a bucket loader. Borough officials explained that the compost distribution area will be filled periodically and it is available free of charge.
The Borough encourages residents to use caution and to be patient of others when they go to the compost distribution area. Borough officials also explained that if the area becomes a collection point for litter and illegal dumping, the service will be discontinued. The area is monitored by surveillance cameras, and violators will be prosecuted.
The Borough Council and Mayor Thomas encourage all residents to take advantage of this new service that was made possible through a cooperative effort with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
February 16th: The commonwealth today unveiled a new, toll-free line, 1-888-9-READYPA (1-888-973-2397), as part of ReadyPA, a public out reach campaign that includes a Web site – http://www.ReadyPA.org – to educate citizens about the importance of creating emergency kits and family emergency plans. REMINDER: January 17th: The Borough Council approved changes to Chapter 163, Vehicles and Traffic, of the Sayre Borough Code. These changes were made to improve pedestrian safety in the area of Sayre High School and Guthrie Healthcare's Sayre Campus:
- Elimination of parking on the west side of Howard Elmer Park (on South Wilbur Avenue).
- Reduction of the 25 MPH speed limit to 15 MPH on South Wilbur Avenue
between Hayden Street and a point 100 feet south of the West
Lockhart Street intersection.
- Reduction of th 25 MPH speed limit to 15 MPH on Hayden Street
from South Wilbur Avenue to a point 100 feet west of the intersection
with Brock Street.
- Elimination of parking on the north side of West Lockhart Street between Brock Street and Stedman Street during school hours.
January 7th, 2009: The Sayre Borough Police Department will open its bicycle registration program durng Spring 2009. The purpose of this program is to facilitate identification of lost/stolen bicycles and return to their rightful owners. Stay tuned for the announcement of the program's opening.
November 24th: The Borough Council approved the 2009 budget at its November 20th meeting. The tax rate for 2009 will remain at 10.12 mills. The 2009 budget is available as a PDF file.
UPDATED: November 8, 2008: The Sayre Borough Council approved the borough's first Comprehensive Plan is available for review at the Sayre Borough Hall, 110 West Packer Avenue, Sayre, Pennsylvania, during normal business hours and at the Sayre Public Library.
