    Curbside Recycling

  • What Can You Recycle at curbside?
    • PLASTIC CONTAINERS:

    – containers must have 1’s and 2’s codes;

    – The base must be larger than the opening. (For example: gallon milk containers, laundry detergent, soda, and water bottles).

    Lids, caps, and rings must be removed and thrown away.

    – Containers must be rinsed out.

    – NO plastic food/TV dinner trays, tar buckets, egg cartons, Styrofoam, margarine and sour cream tubs, deli containers, yogurt cups, and plastic pipe.

  • NEWSPAPERS.

  • – Bundle and keep dry. You can include inserts and advertisements that come with your newspapers.

  • MAGAZlNES.

  • – bundle and keep dry.

  • GLASS.

  • – Clear, green, and brown glass only.

    – Containers must be rinsed out.

    – and separated according to color.

    – NO broken glass, window panes, mirror glass, ceramics, pottery, flower pits, light bulbs, drinking glasses, or dishes.

  • TIN/BIMETAL/ALUMINUM.

  • – Separate steel (e.g., food cans) from aluminum (e.g., beverage cans).

    – All cans should be rinsed out.

    – We cannot take any kind of foil, pie tins, aerosol cam, pots, pans, or scrap metal.

  • CARDBOARD.

  • – We accept corrugated boxes and Kraft paper bags only.

    – No gift boxes, wax cardboard, soda cartons, cereal boxes, tissue taxes, egg cartons, "Korean" ( gray green) cardboard, and other paper mache containers.


    Recycling and Composting Center

    S. Thomas Avenue next to Riverfront Park.

    The Borough has set up a distribution area there where residents can load their own compost. Compost is not available to contractors and it cannot be loaded with a bucket loader. The compost distribution area will be filled periodically and it is available free of charge.

    The Recycling and Compost Facility at Sayre's Department of Public Works will observe its SUMMER SCHEDULE effective Monday, April 5th, as follows:

    Monday 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
    Wednesday 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
    Saturday 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M.

    What can I bring to the Composting Section:
    • Leaves

    • Grass

    • Garden residue

    • Woodchips

    • and Tree limbs less than four inches in diameter.


    What can you recycle at the Recycling and Composting Center?

    The Recycling Center takes everything listed above under Curbside Recycling (including the same restrictions), plus:

    Recycling Section:
    • PAPER PRODUCTS:

    – junk mail, computer paper, copy paper, letterhead paper, writing paper, white high grade of fire paper envelops without windows.


    WE DO NOT RECYCLE:

  • – Items containing hazardous material, such as antifreeze or oil containers or driveway sealer.

  • medical waste such as hypodermic needles.

  • Paint cans. (Paint cans should be filled with dirt or cat litter until dry, and then thrown away in the regular trash).

  • aluminum siding, scrap metal, pots and pans.

  • plastic contains marked #3 through #7.

  • motor oil, antifreeze or other automotive fluid containers.

  • parking materials, e.g.) Styrofoam, parking peanuts, bubble wrap, and tissue.

  • plastic bags of any type.

  • envelopes with windows and carbon paper.

  • ream wrappers, televisions, copiers, microwaves, or appliances.
