Guthrie Centennial Parade, January 11th: The following streets will be closed temporarily for the subject parade between 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM: South Lehigh Avenue from the Sayre Passenger Station (Sayre Historical Society) north to the Desmond Street; south on Desmond Street to West Packer Avenue, then west on West Packer Avenue to the Guthrie Clinic Atrium on the Guthrie Campus.
Planning Commission meeting, January 12th, 7:00 PM: The Sayre Borough Planning Commission will meet at the date/time indicated to discuss the proposed rezoning of Keystone Avenue from light commerical to downtown commerical. The meeting will be held in Council Chambers, 110 West Packer Avenue. This meeting presents an opportunity for the public, especially those residents of Keystone Avenue and parallel or perpendicular streets to Keystone Avenue, to express their opinions on the proposal. The proposed admendment to the Zoning Code was approved for advertising at the Council's December meeting.
January 10th: Avoid the fine - register your dog. You can download a dog license form from the link at the left, pick up one and apply at Tropical Pet Paradise in Athens, or visit Pennsylvania's new online site, PA DOG LICENSE.COM. Follow instructions on this site to the Bradford County registration page. In addition to the usual fees for a dog license, there is a $2.00 charge to process you application. You will receive your license in the mail once you submit your request and payment.
December 28th: Former Mayor Nick Chacona died Sunday, December 27th, at age 97. Visitation hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29th, at the Blauvelt Funeral Home in Waverly, N.Y. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 30th, at Epiphany Church in Sayre.
December 2nd: The hours of operation for the South Thomas Avenue drop-off Recycling and Compost facility will change effective next Monday, December 7, 2009.
The new hours at the recycling and compost facility will be 4:00pm to 7:00pm on each WEDNESDAY excluding holidays and 8:00am to 3:00pm on each SATURDAY excluding holidays.
November 2nd = Heating Assistance now open. Pennsylvania’s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance program – better known as LIHEAP -- opened on Nov. 2. The federally-funded program provides cash grants to help low-income households pay for home heating fuel. In January, it will offer crisis grants to address heating emergencies.
